In honor of Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert's Rally to Restore Sanity in DC this weekend I figured I should get a dual portrait of the two done. I was worried this piece might not get finished before the rally but a few late nights was all it took. If only I had the time to make it down to the Rally.
A Stash of Old Sketches
Here are a few of my favorites from a bunch of old sketches that I found while packing and sorting for the big move. These were all just fun sketches done while I was at SU. None of them turned into anything finalized, which I kinda like because it lets them stay fun and loose.
Pirate Head - This is probably the most polished of these. If I get some time soon I might try putting some color to this. |
This one was done when I still had the dreads. Not really a self-portrait, although there is obviously some influence there. It was one in many experiments with sketching hair. |
This is just a typical exercise in upper-body form with a hint of character design. |
This was one of many sketches done while I was at Soundgarden trying to stay awake watching the walls of DVD's upstairs. For anyone who knows Soundgarden in Syracuse this was back when they had an upstairs. |
This was based on some tall lanky kid walking through the quad that I saw on my way to class one day. |
Just a little monster, I believe it was supposed to be an Imp or something similar. Yes, I am a dork. No, I don't really care. |
Finally, a sketch of a demon, or a devil whatever you want to call it is cool by me. |
Red, White and Screwed
The newest Illustration was a fun one to do. I haven't gotten to work in this style in a while so it was a blast to just jump right into it again. There was a lot of masking for this one and my fingers were dyed red and blue for a few days. Fun stuff. As far as politics go, I'm not trying to choose any sides with this one. It's more about being disappointed with both of them for arguing instead of getting anything productive done.
Kick-off the blog
So here it goes, my first blog entry. Here's a character development sketch for 'Gluttony' from a Seven Deadly Sins series I'm doing. Now try saying that a few times fast while you check out the sketch.
Hopefully I'll be posting a bunch over the next few days but most of my time lately is spent trying to organize my move to the City.
